This foundational course provides comprehensive theory of cosmetic applications of neurotoxins. Practitioners will receive a solid introduction to botulinum toxin type A (aka Botox®/ Nuceiva®/ Dysport®/Xeomin®) and leave with an understanding on how to appropriately assess patients, formulate treatment plans, avoid complications, basic facial anatomy, and safe injection techniques. Includes workbook, required forms, and a certificate of completion.

Introduction to Facial Aesthetics
Botulinum toxin A is often the first procedure in facial rejuvenation treatments. This module reviews beauty ideals, the history of neuromodulators, assessment of patient desires and needs, and appropriate treatment selection and sequence.
Anatomy of the Face & Neck
Review of Botulinum Toxin A
Botulinum Toxin A works by inhibiting the synaptic release of acetylcholine which weakens or ceases muscle contraction. This module will discuss the mechanism of action, basic pharmacology review, clinical indications, potential contraindications, reconstitution and safe handling, and dosing ranges. It will also evaluate the subtle nuances between the currently licensed neuromodulators on the Canadian market.

Record Keeping
Documentation of the patient’s pre-existing condition, areas injected, and treatment results are critical for proper patient care and evaluation as well as for legal reasons. Documentation guidelines will be reviewed and examples of pre/post treatment instructions and consent forms will be available for review. Photography for medical records will also be reviewed.
